Privacy Policy

How Feint handles your documents and information. The short version: your work stays in your browser unless you choose to use a third-party feature.

Last updated 5 September 2026

1. Information stored on your device

When you upload a PDF and work on it, Feint stores the source PDF and its editing state in your browser's IndexedDB storage. That state can include your answers, formatting, detected and edited line positions, and drawings.

  • This information stays on the device and browser where you created it.
  • It is not uploaded to or stored on a Feint application server.
  • Feint does not currently sync documents between browsers or devices.

A PDF exported from Feint may contain an embedded copy of the source PDF and Feint editing state so it can be reopened for editing. That information travels with the exported file. Anyone who receives the file may be able to access its embedded contents.

2. Information sent to third parties

If you choose to look up a past paper, Feint sends the standard number you search for to the independent NZQA.toasting.me archive. When you select a result, Feint requests that PDF from the archive's download host. These requests are made directly from your browser. The archive and its infrastructure may receive ordinary request information such as your IP address and browser details. It is not operated by Feint or NZQA.

The archive processes information under its own privacy practices and may keep request records.

3. Accounts and personal information

Feint does not currently offer user accounts or ask for your name, email address, or other profile information to use its core features. The content of a document may still contain personal information that you or the document's creator placed in it.

4. Analytics, cookies, and browser storage

Feint does not currently use analytics, advertising trackers, or cookies. It uses IndexedDB to provide the local document storage described above. IndexedDB is a browser storage technology, not a tracking cookie.

Like most websites, Feint's hosting provider may automatically process limited technical request information, such as your IP address, browser type, requested page, and request time, to deliver and secure the site. Any hosting logs are handled under the provider's own practices and do not contain the PDFs, answers, or drawings held in Feint's local document library.

5. Children's privacy

Feint is designed for students and does not require an account or profile information. Users should avoid entering unnecessary personal or sensitive information into documents. A parent, guardian, or teacher should help younger users understand the past-paper archive if they choose to use it.

6. Security and retention

Because Feint's document library is stored locally, access to it depends on the security of your device and browser profile. Use a protected device and take care when exporting or sharing files. Feint keeps local documents until you delete them or clear the site's browser data. Third parties may apply their own security and retention practices to requests sent to them.

7. Your choices

You can control your Feint data by:

  • deleting individual documents from your Feint library;
  • clearing Feint's site data in your browser to remove locally stored documents and settings;
  • not using the optional past-paper lookup; and
  • deleting any exported copies separately wherever you saved or shared them.

8. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when Feint's features or data practices change. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised.
